[REAL EPL] 선수 사모으는 맨유, 박지성의 미래는?
다음 시즌 맨체스터 유나이티드(이하 맨유)의 선수구성은 어떻게 될까.
알렉스 퍼거슨 감독은 이미 오웬 하그리브스, 나니, 안데르손 등을 영입하며 미드필드 라인을 강화했다. 이들은 맨유의 미래를 책임져야 할 선수들이다.
특히 안데르손과 나니는 팀의 미래를 보고 영입한 선수다. 포르투갈리그 포르투에서 이적한 브라질 출신 안데르손은 공격 본능이 넘친다. 장기적으로 폴 스콜스를 대체할 선수일 것이다.
물론 잉글랜드축구에 적응할 시간이 필요하기에 다음 시즌 곧바로 스콜스를 대체하기는 어렵다. 최소한 한 시즌은 교체선수로 출전해야 할 것이다.
스포르팅리스본에서 이적한 측면 공격수 나니는 보는 이들을 미소짓게 만드는 선수다.
긱스를 대체할 것으로 보이는 나니는 체력적인 면이 돋보인다. 이들은 폴 스콜스와 라이언 긱스처럼 왕성한 체력으로 경기를 지배하는 역할을 해내야 한다.
때문에 안데르손과 나니 모두 다음 시즌에나 퍼거슨 감독의 시스템 안에 녹아들어갈 것이다. 이들이 무난히 적응하면 맨유는 다음 시즌 유럽축구에서 아주 뛰어난 젊은 선수들을 대거 보유하게 돼 아주 위협적인 공격력을 갖춘 팀으로 거듭날 것이다.
하그리브스는 바로 선발출전이 가능한 선수다. 나는 하그리브스의 팬도 아니지만 그가 레귤러라는 사실은 말할 필요가 없다. 특히 챔피언스리그에서 단연 두각을 나타낼 것으로 보인다.
사실 프리미어리그만을 놓고 볼 때 맨유에는 하그리브스같은 스타일의 미드필더가 필요없다.
오히려 캐릭처럼 패싱력이 좋은, 공을 지켜내고 기회를 만들어내는 능력이 뛰어난 선수들이 더 위협적이다. 하그리브스는 그런 모습을 보여주기 힘들 것이다.
그러나 맨유가 하그리브스에 그렇게 많은 돈을 들인 것은 퍼거슨 감독 개인적으로 잉글랜드대표팀을 운용하는 듯한 기분을 느껴보고 싶기 때문이라고 생각이 든다.
새로운 자원들은 박지성의 자리를 위협하지는 않을 것으로 보인다. 박지성은 무릎 부상 전 충분히 자신의 가치를 증명했고, 새 얼굴 모두 박지성과 포지션이 겹치지 않기 때문이다.
하그리브스와 안데르손은 중앙 미드필더이고, 나니는 폭넓은 움직임을 보이는 선수다. 퍼거슨 감독은 이들을 활용해 다음 시즌 프리미어리그 우승과 챔피언스리그 우승이라는 두마리 토끼를 잡으려 하고 있다.
박지성은 양쪽 측면 모두에서 활약하고 있다는 사실로 인해 퍼거슨 감독에게 가치있는 자원 중 하나다. 퍼거슨 감독은 박지성을 다음 시즌 전까지 팔지 않을 것이다. 물론 부상 중인 선수를 영입하겠다고 나서는 팀도 없지만 말이다.
맨유는 세명의 미드필더를 영입하기 위해 5000만파운드나 사용한 상황. 레귤러 중 몇몇은 타팀으로 이적시켜야 할 것으로 보인다.
퍼거슨 감독이 기존 미드필드 자원을 정리해야 하는 상황에서 가장 걱정되는 선수는 키어런 리차드슨이다. 리차드슨은 충분한 임팩트를 주지 못했고, 그의 이적을 요구하는 팀들이 다수 있다.
염려되는 또 한명은 대런 플래처다. 그가 앞으로도 올드 트래포드를 홈으로 쓸 수 있는가는 조금 걱정된다. 새 미드필더들의 영입은 플래처가 없는 맨유의 부족한 점을 메우고 있기 때문이다.
지난 시즌 16차례 선발출전한 플래처가 맨유에 남는다고 하더라도 하그리브스와 안데르손으로 인해 출전 기회가 적어질 것이다.
새로 맨유 유니폼을 입은 3명을 통해 볼 때 퍼거슨 감독은 새로운 형태의 포메이션을 고민하고 있는 것으로 보인다.
하그리브스와 마이클 캐릭을 미드필드에 고정하고, 안데르손·나니·크리스티아누 호날두·웨인 루니 등이 공격에 가담해 골을 얻어내는 방식 말이다.
만약 퍼거슨 감독이 이러한 옵션을 시행하면 박지성에게는 아주 좋은 일이 될 것이다. 웨인 루니 뒤쪽에 위치해 섀도 스트라이커 역할을 해내며 맞춤옷을 입은 듯한 플레이가 가능할 것으로 보인다.

4-4-2포메이션을 효과적으로 쓰기 위해서라도 공격수 영입은 꼭 필요하다. 내 생각에 퍼거슨 감독은 디미트리 베르바토프를 염두해 두고 있다. 하지만 토트넘은 그를 팔고 싶지 않다. 또한 거액의 이적료도 난제다.
베르바토프는 맨유 중앙 공격을 담당할 아주 완벽한 스타일을 가졌다. 골을 많이 얻어낼 뿐 아니라 매우 영리한 선수로 다른 선수들에게 공격기회를 내주는 데도 뛰어나다.
해법 중 하나는 토트넘도 만족할 다른 선수와 베르바토프를 맞교환 하는 것이다. 그 대상은 웨스 브라운, 루이 사아 등에 또다른 조건을 내걸어야 할 것이다.
루이 사아는 더이상 올드 트래퍼드를 홈구장으로 쓰기 어려울 것으로 보인다. 부상 등으로 인해 퍼거슨 감독을 많이 실망시켰다. 출전할 때 많은 골을 기록하기는 했지만 맨유는 선수를 선택할 때 첫번째 고려사항이 많은 시간 출전할 수 있어야 한다는 점이다.
아주 좋은 역량을 가진 앨런 스미스와 이름값을 톡톡히 하고 있는 올레 군나르 솔샤르 남을 것으로 보인다. 페르난도 토레스나 니콜라스 아넬카는 베르바토프의 영입 실패시 선택할 수 있는 또다른 옵션이다. 다음 시즌 맨유의 최후 조합이 어떤 모습일지 궁금하다.

Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to build on winning the title.
In signing Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson, Ferguson has significantly strengthened his midfield options, so could that mean the end for Ji-sung Park at Old Trafford I sincerely hope it will not mean Ji-sung no longer has a role to play for United, particularly after he proved how valuable a player he can be before he suffered his knee injury.
In a strange way that injury is likely to ensure Ji-sung is still at United next season as no other club will be trying to sign a player who is injured.
As it is still unclear how long Ji-sung will be out of the team, I do not see any reason why United will be looking to sell in the summer. But even if Ji-sung was fit, I still do not believe he would be one of the players that Ferguson would look to sell before next season.
If you look at the positions that Ferguson has covered with the three signings, then it would not be a major threat to Ji-sung's status in the squad.
Hargreaves and Anderson are both central midfield players and, while Nani is a wide player, he is clearly looked upon as a long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs.
Ferguson wants to make sure he has enough cover next season to enable the club to challenge for both the Premiership title and the Champions League.
Terefore, Ji-sung would still be a valuable asset for the United manager as he is able to play on both flanks, providing the necessary cover and ability required.
Perhaps the person who has got the most to worry about is Kieran Richardson as his chances of playing for United now look very slim indeed.
Richardson has never impressed me as being good enough to be a United regular and I think there will be plenty of clubs prepared to make an offer.
Someone like Darren Fletcher may also need to be a little worried about his future at Old Trafford as the new signings are surely going to lead to him playing less.
Fletcher started 16 Premiership games last season, but the presence of Hargreaves and Anderson will lead to fewer opportunities for the Scotland international.
In looking at the three new signings, and how they will all fit in, there have been reports that Ferguson will adopt a new formation.
It has been claimed he will play Hargreaves and Michael Carrick as holding midfielders, with Anderson, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of those and Wayne Rooney as the main point in attack.
If Ferguson does go for this option, then I think that would be good for Ji-sung as he would be perfectly suited to playing one of the positions just in behind Rooney.
However, I would be surprised if Ferguson does go for this system, largely because Rooney is never as effective when he is the main striker.
Rooney is at his best when playing as the link man between midfield and striker, and with Ferguson keen to sign another striker anyway, the usual 4-4-2 formation should be used again.
Taking last season as a guide, then Ronaldo, Carrick, Paul Scholes and Giggs would be the four to play across the midfield. But, having spent ?0million to sign Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani, Ferguson may decide he has to play at least one of those on a regular basis.
Anderson and Nani are clearly players for the long-term future, so Hargreaves would be the obvious one to start. Personally, I am still not a great fan of Hargreaves and will wait to be convinced that he deserves to be a United regular.
Where he may do best is when United are playing in the Champions League and Ferguson tends to try and play three central midfielders, particularly away from home.
In the Premier League, United do not need someone of Hargreaves type in midfield as they dominate so many games that it is better to have a player capable of passing the ball well like Carrick.
Being on top in so many games means United need players like Carrick and Scholes in midfield to keep the ball and create chances something Hargreaves is not great at doing.
But having spent so much money on Hargreaves, Ferguson may feel he has to play the England international, so Carrick ?a big-money signing himself may be the one to make way.
Anderson, a Brazilian signed from Portuguese club Porto, is a more attack-minded midfielder and it seems he will be a long-term replacement for Scholes.
Given how well Scholes played last season, it is not vital that he is replaced immediately and it will be 12 months for Anderson to get used to English football.
It will be a similar situation with Nani, a winger who has come in from Sporting Lisbon, and who will be looked upon as Giggs?natural replacement.
Like Scholes, Giggs still has the fitness to play regularly for United next season, so Nani may also have to wait for his chance in the team.
What cannot be denied, however, is the ability that both Anderson and Nani will bring to the United squad next season whatever system Ferguson decides to go with.
United probably now boast four of the 10 best young players in European football and it makes them dangerous opponents for anybody next season.
Ferguson now needs to decide what to do for a striker as chief executive David Gill has revealed the money is there to sign another player.
Dimitar Berbatov would be my choice, but I think Tottenham are very reluctant to sell, even for a big fee.
Berbatov would be the perfect type of centre-forward for United as he scores goals, but he is also a very clever player and would fit in well with the other attackers in the squad.
One way to try and get Spurs to accept a deal is by offering other players in exchange, and United could certainly put the likes of Wes Brown and Louis Saha into any deal.
I think Saha's future lies away from Old Trafford as his injuries have made him such a frustrating figure for Ferguson.
Saha has scored goals when he has been fit, but United can not afford to have a first-choice striker who spends so much time out of the team through injury.
Alan Smith and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remain good squad players, so a big-name striker, with Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka other options, would be the final piece in the Manchester United jigsaw for next season.
