[Ä®·³ ¿ø¹®]¡¡
The big story of the week concerns Manchester United's bid to sign Carlos Tevez from West Ham United.
¡¡
United are hoping to add the Argentine striker to the squad for next season, but are finding it hard to get through all the contract problems associated with Tevez.
Fifa has now been asked to look into the matter and it is to be hoped that it can be sorted out quickly.
The main issue concerns the registration of Tevez, with West Ham claiming they own his playing registration and his agent Kia Joorabchian claiming to own his economic rights.
¡¡
With the Premier League also involved in the case, it is no wonder why United are having such difficulties in trying to finalise the transfer.
¡¡
Essentially, someone is lying in this case, but it is hard to work out who one thing is for sure, it is not United.
¡¡
The main reason why United feel there should not be such a problem in signing Tevez is due to Javier Mascherano's move to Liverpool earlier this year.
¡¡
United are trying to sign Tevez in the same way that Liverpool signed Mascherano, who joined West Ham at the same time as his fellow Argentine.
¡¡
Liverpool appear to have signed Mascherano on a long-term loan, possibly for two years, and the deal was given approval by the Premier League.
¡¡
In this instance, West Ham did not receive a transfer fee, so why should the Hammers now receive a fee for Tevez leaving Upton Park¡¡And, if the Hammers are entitled to a fee for Tevez, then why was nothing done, or said, when Mascherano left in January¡¡Partly, this is due to the fact that Mascherano did not play many games for West Ham or had much of an impact for the club.
Therefore, they were not too disappointed when the idfielder moved to Liverpool the same can not be said for Tevez.
His form in the closing two months of the season kept the club in the Premier League and he scored at Old Trafford on the final day of the campaign which guaranteed their status for next season.
It is understandable why West Ham do not want to lose Tevez, and also why they want to be compensated if he does go.
¡¡
Going back a few months to when West Ham were fined 5million regarding the registration of Tevez and Mascherano, the club claimed to have ripped up their agreement with Joorabchian.
To replace this, West Ham claim to have a contract with Tevez until 2010, yet this raises two questions.
One, has Joorabchian ripped up his original contract with West Ham Two, if West Ham do have Tevez under contract until 2010, why did they not pay a fee for him This is why someone in the case must be lying be it Joorabchian or West
¡¡
Ham as Joorabchian insists it was only a year-long loan, yet West Ham say it is now for a further three seasons.
It is certain that Joorabchian would not allow Tevez to sign a long-term contract without being suitably compensated say million and West Ham clearly do not appear to have paid such a sum.
Joorabchian has already invested a lot of money in Tevez and he would not allow that money to disappear without a fight.
¡¡
He would surely have made it clear to everyone if he had received any money from West Ham, so that is why the club's claims about Tevez's contract have to be doubted.
I think what West Ham, and the Premier League, are trying to do is cover their backs to avoid getting into any further trouble after the challenge by Sheffield United to their original punishment.
Sheffield United, and other clubs who were battling against relegation at the time, felt West Ham should have been ocked points for the offence, and they certainly should have lost three points.
Recent appeals to the courts have not given Sheffield United the chance to have the punishment overturned and there is no chance of a further appeal.
¡¡
Yet, should it be proved that West Ham's contract with Tevez is not valid, then Sheffield United would surely have the right to challenge the original verdict.
¡¡
But if a decision is not made before the season starts on 11th August, then whatever happens it would be very hard even impossible for Sheffield United and West Ham to swap divisions.
Man United have already admitted a decision may not be made before the close of the transfer window on 31st August, but I would be surprised if this does turn out to be the case.
¡¡
When Fifa does look into the matter, as they have been asked to do so by both clubs, then hopefully everything will come to light.
Ultimately, there have to be contracts somewhere which state exactly what Tevez's status is and who actually owns him and is entitled to any transfer fee.
Perhaps West Ham would be best advised to accept that Tevez is not really their player and that a 5million fine, and staying in the Premier League, is a small price to pay for all the trouble that has been caused.
As I say, using the Mascherano transfer as a guide, then there is no reason why Man United should not be allowed to sign him on a long-term loan basis as such a transfer has already been approved. Once a decision has been made, what then Well, I do feel he will end up a Manchester United player and he will certainly be an excellent signing judged on his form in the closing two months of last season.
¡¡
Whether he can keep up that type of form remains to be seen, but he certainly has the quality needed to be a key player for United and you can understand why Sir Alex Ferguson is trying so hard to sign Tevez.
¡¡
What United have to make sure of, though, as Ferguson has already said, is that the transfer is transparent and that there will be no future problems regarding Tevez's contract and registration.
It has already cast the Premier League in a negative light and it is to be hoped that, once a decision is reached, Tevez's ability and performances can ¡¡make football be the talking point once again.
